Light as a key design element
This atticalthough in the function of residential space, it was in a bad condition before the implementation of the project and completely unfit for life – neglected, dysfunctional and without enough natural light, Studio Focal explained to the portal Interior design.
By introducing a large number of skylights, the apartment is today flooded with natural light. “Light has become a key element of the design, opening the space to the sky and creating a feeling of openness and connection with nature,” say the authors of the project.
As a technically and technically demanding undertaking, one of the biggest challenges was strengthening the original roof structure and completely changing the roof covering. So, among other things, it was added insulation of 25 cm in order to ensure the energy efficiency of the apartment.
The roof structure, with its patina, was left in its original state to give the space character and historical depth.
The roof structure, with its patina, was left in its original state to give the space character and historical depth. Patina on old beams it brings warmth and authenticity, while other elements of the interior remain reduced and simpleallowing the space to “breathe” and emphasize its unique shape.
One of the key design moves was reconstruction of the old chimney and addition fireplace wood burning stove in the living room, which not only brought a feeling of warmth to the home, but also created an authentic combination between the modern interior and retained traditional elements.
Materialization in the service of space
Natural materials, such as wood and stonewere used in their purest form to achieve harmony between contemporary and rustic elements. The aim was for the materials not to overpower the space, but to be at the service of the space, following its form and dynamics, explained the studio. Focal.
Gallery on the roofintended for relaxation, yoga or reading, represents an additional zone of intimacy and peace, perfectly adapted to different activities. Nooks in the space, whether they are for privacy or community, create a sense of refuge, harmony and a deep connection with the space.
